A central theme in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, tradition assists all of the characters in navigating their lives. Tradition dictates that, to find a suitable partner for marriage, a matchmaker must be consulted. Tradition also regulates dress, food consumption and who can interact with whom—especially in regard to Jewish/Russian relations. While Tevye, the lead character, upholds these traditions, the old ways are coming into question more frequently.

A Cappella Group Naturally 7 Inspires Students

In January, Omaha Performing Arts presented a cappella group Naturally 7 at the Holland Performing Arts Center. The group performed to a packed house of students for a Student Matinee, held in the morning before their public performance later that evening. Students were taken on a journey into the creative process with Naturally 7 and experienced demonstrations of the complex arranging, writing, producing and singing that goes into an a cappella performance. Roger Thomas, a member of Naturally 7, shares his thoughts on the student matinee.

Omaha's talented next generation of artists take center stage in the spectacular atmosphere of the Holland's Scott Recital Hall for a series of Young Artists' Nights. Each presentation features a unique theme highlighting one specific genre of performance presented by a select group of young performers from throughout the Omaha area. Our most recent Young Artists' Night, Broadway Songbook with Dave Barrus, was held in January. A group of talented high school and college students from the Omaha area had the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a Broadway star... from a Broadway star! The holiday season at Omaha Performing Arts means lots of great concerts, fun parties, and one of my favorite traditions here – the ConAgra Foods Arts for the Holidays Celebration. For the third season running, we continue our partnership with the Omaha Symphony, Opera Omaha, and ConAgra Foods in support of the Food Bank for the Heartland. This is a great initiative that allows us all to give back to the community and inspire hope through our generosity.
